NEARFest 2009

Last weekend was NEARFest. What a show! Got some great photos, including the ones I used in the collage above. I’ll add some more about this when I get the chance. I’m also working on learning how to use WordPress’s blogging tools. So this may look a bit amateurish ’til I get the hang of it. But I’ll keep on trying.

Van der Graaf Generator was awesome. This was only their second time ever playing in the USA. The only albums I have of theirs are Pawn Hearts and Godbluff, and they played a lot of pieces from each. They also played a lot of cuts from their new studio album Trisector, which I also really liked. This prompted me to order a copy of the album (strangely, they didn’t have a table set up to try to hawk their wares … I mentioned this to Guy Evans in the hotel the next day, and he looked at me stunned and said, “Well, that would have been a good idea, wouldn’t it?”). I’ll be updating the GEPR‘s VdGG entry as soon as I’ve had a chance to listen to it a few times.

The strangest part of this was being there with three other people who were completely unfamiliar with Van der Graaf Generator and they all really liked the show too!
